Recently back from our trip in Japan. Below is an itinerary of where and what we did over a 10 day trip from Tokyo to Kyoto to the Japan Alps.
The paper lanterns are outside the Asakusa temple. The local businesses in the area make regular donations by purchasing these lanterns.
Shibamata is like a small version of Asakusa without the hoards of toursits. Local school kids on the train were very eager to practice their English.
The area is known for a movie series called "Tora San" A vagabond romantic with a heart of gold. His carefree approach to life and his unorthodox view on Japanese society made him a favourite to those who wished to be like him but couldn't.

Shibuya in the armpit of Tokyo's entertainment area is a stark contrast to the old world of Shitamachi (Old Down Town). Shibuya is Neon Nippon while Shinjuku a red light district also full of entertainment is also Funky but a little more on the edge so to speak.

Ueno where we stayed is more down to earth where the people are less fashion conscious.
A Buddhist monk outside Ueno station stands waiting for donations from pedestrians as he chants in silence.
